Producing innovative thinking

Taking on
knlowledge crisis

Actions to seek the ingredients that allow the three separated worlds Bio, Techno and Practice to interact fruitfully, beyond the frequent misconceptions that make their connections difficult.

Bio Techno Practice
takes off from the shared recognition that a deep knowledge crisis is affecting our epoch, preventing real advancements.

Symptoms of crisis are multifaceted and ubiquitous.

Here are some of the most salient for the

Bio Techno Practice focus

The fundamental idea behind integral development and dynamic equilibrium responds to the need to describe and explain the intrinsic and unavoidable complexity of living beings. Complexity implies a degree of indeterminacy and uncertainty, which are often unresolvable but manageable (governance) at the systemic level. As the examples show, the theoretical level can be applied to all areas where problems related to complexity arise, even beyond living systems.

From personal choices to meteorology, from organisms to economics, complexity and uncertainty surround our lives. Often it is not possible to resolve them, but they can be managed. Accepting this situation means learning to develop new strategies through new methods that address complexity and uncertainty without being overwhelmed by them. In our society, complex social problems are too often reduced to a few variables, trivializing them and addressing them as emergencies, in the absolute certainty that they will not be resolved. One of our goals is to explore strategies for understanding and acting within the complexity and uncertainty that surround us.

The increasing fragmentation

of knowledge is producing apparently incommensurable results that are practically impossible to gather into a common frame.

Educational programs

need to be renewed in order to differently engage with and motivate students and young researchers

The ‘invasion’ of new data

from high-throughput methods and AI tools asks for something very different from ‘smart’ algorithms that, while putting some order on data, are not sufficient to generate new theoretical perspectives.

Organizational models

are suffering from individualistic and autoreferential frameworks, while relevant alternatives are still missing or are in search of new foundations.

Bio, Techno and Practice constitute the triple lens by which innovative thinking and solutions are expected to come.

Bio, Techno, and Practice are major focal issues of the contemporary world. At the same time, they need to be radically thought over, in connection with one another. In fact, the ‘biological’, the ‘technological’, and the ‘practical epistemic’ ways of thinking are already merging and contaminating their respective traditions, but this radical transformation of scientific understanding goes on largely unconscious or neglected.
